  • Winton Business Association are holding a lady's luncheon at the Top Hotel Garden Bar from 12 noon Friday 27th September. Tickets $50 with all profits donated to NZ Breast Cancer Foundation. Guest Speaker: Wendy Frew - Retired netballer for Southern Sting, Southland Steel & Silver Ferns & Southern Steel Coach for 2025. Tickets available from Country Jewel. Winton's Pink for a day is Friday 27th September 20204 - a fundraising event where you can get everyone in your organisation to wear pink, share pink food, decorate in pink, come together, have a laugh & most importantly raise much needed funds for The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation. 

  • Nominations for the 2024 Soroptimist Woman of the Year are now open.
    This award dinner will be held at the Food Affair Restaurant, Gore Racecourse, on Saturday 12 October. The purpose of this Soroptimist award is to acknowledge a woman who has achieved an outstanding accomplishment in any field (e.g. the arts, business, community affairs, education, health, politics, sport, work or profession). The nominee must be 25 years or over and must have lived in the catchment of Gore and Districts Health lnc. for at least three years and must have shown high achievement in any of the listed fields. This map is included with the nomination form. Anyone can nominate a woman for this award. A simple one-page nomination form can be requested by emailing sigore@siswp.org or picked up at the Gore Library.
    Nominations open on Wednesday 28 August and close Friday 27 September.

  • The South Coast Environment Society is holding the second Bountiful Backyards Festival on the first weekend of October. On the Friday before (4th October) there is a 2 hour Foraging walk ($20) along a section of the Riverton coastline identifying and tasting edibles along the way. There are over 20 edibles that are easy and safe to identify.There is a full program of workshops and activities for both adults and children on both Saturday and Sunday (5th and 6th October). The aim of the festival is to inspire everyone to grow more food in their backyards. Topics covered include bucket gardens, seed propagation, seed balls, instant no-dig gardens, spring recipes, grafting fruit trees, sprouts, microgreens, compost, biochar, soil fertility, forest gardening, and corresponding children sessions to keep them engaged while parents attend workshops. Most workshops are priced around $16 for adults and $6 for children activities.SCES is proud of the range of workshops on offer and the quality of workshop facilitators. We hope you can join us.     Family Works Southland are looking for people in Invercargill and Gore who are willing to volunteer 2 - 3 hours a week to help the young members of our community to develop their social skills and create strong long-lasting friendships. Being a Big Buddy to someone is about encouraging growth, confidence, and stepping outside your comfort zone.   • If you have important documents that need signing by a Justice of the Peace, then do not hesitate to drop by the Gore District Library on a Wednesday evening from 6.30PM~ 7.30PM.
    Justices of the Peace offer a volunteer service to the public of Southland. A Justice of the Peace can:

    • Witness your signature on a document.
    • Certify copies of documents for you including cell phone texts and computer displayed results.
    • Administer an affidavit for you. This is a document that is sworn on oath or affirmed and is normally used in a legal proceeding.
    • Complete a declaration for you. This may be a statutory declaration made under the Oaths and Declarations Act 1957 or some other statute which provides for this to be done.
